COSMETIC DENTISTRY

Cosmetic dentistry is a blend of art and science that helps patients to achieve aesthetically pleasing results; it is the process of improving the appearance of a person’s teeth, gums and smile. Cosmetic dentistry offers many opportunities to restore and enhance teeth that may suffer the effects of aging, trauma, poor genetics, or general wear-and-tear.

Tooth whitening is the most common cosmetic dentistry procedure because it can significantly improve the appearance of your teeth at much less cost and inconvenience than other techniques. There are various types of teeth whitening treatments available ranging from in-office bleaching to take-home kits that take a few weeks.

Porcelain Crowns
Tooth colored porcelain Crowns are used to cover damaged, cracked, chipped teeth, or to generally restore teeth. When cemented into place, they fully cup over the portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gum line.

Veneers
Porcelain veneers are custom-made ultra-thin shells of tooth colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. They can remedy the look of teeth that are chipped, discolored, misaligned, uneven, worn down, or abnormally spaced.
The result of a dental veneer treatment is teeth that are bright and beautifully aligned and look and feel completely natural.

Porcelain Bridges
Porcelain bridges replace a missing tooth or more. A tooth or teeth replaced with bridgework are replaced by a natural-looking prosthetic (replacement) that is held together by the teeth on either side of the missing one(s).

ORAL SURGERY

Dr Wael Assaf is highly experienced in most of oral surgical procedures including wisdom teeth surgeries, implants, bone and tissue grafts, sinus lift, apicoectomy, crown lengthening…
If you wish not to have your wisdom teeth removed in chair, you have the option to get it done under General Anesthetic at the Mater Mackay Hospital, as Dr Wael is a registered practitioner with the Mater Mackay Hospital.

Dental Implants

M3x3

Dental implants are a means of replacing lost or missing teeth.
Dental implants are made of medical grade titanium that serves as the “root” of the new tooth which are used in dentistry to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth, in general, dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%.
Depending on each case, the total procedure can take from three to six months or more, from surgical placement of the implant to fitting of the final restoration.

Wisdom teeth
In the majority of cases, there will not be enough room in the jaw for a wisdom tooth or all wisdom teeth to fully emerge. This can lead to several complications. If it is determined that the wisdom teeth are likely to cause problems, it is usually recommend to be removed earlier rather than later.
The option of doing the procedure in chair (under local anaesthetic) or at the hospital (Mater Hospital under General anaesthetic) is always the patients decision.

Bone and tissue grafting for implants
In some instances, you may be lacking in bone, gum or both. Once a tooth has been lost, the gum and underlying bone reduces in volume and height. In some of these cases, you may need bone augmentation (grafting) or soft tissue or gum augmentation (grafting).

Partial Dentures
A partial denture is a removable appliance replacing one or more missing natural teeth and associated tissues. It is supported by the natural remaining teeth and gums. It replaces what is lost and preserves what is left.
Chrome dentures are the preferred partial denture of choice when it comes to taking up room in your mouth. The Chrome strength allows us to create more lightweight dentures with less bulk giving your tongue more freedom and helping speech
Chrome dentures are designed with metal clasps and rests that gain support from adjacent teeth as well as tissues. The metal aspects increase tightness and stability of the plate. This means increased comfort and better function.
Ask about VALPLAST flexible dentures (suitable for certain cases).
Denture secured by implants
Implant retained dentures use fixed components to secure the denture to the top bottom jaw and prevent any denture movement during function. This includes chewing food, speaking or even smiling. These are most suitable for patients with common lower denture instability and are recommended as the most preferred way to fix this problem. We can also modify your current dentures to accommodate new implant placement.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

At the center of your tooth there is pulp. Pulp is a collection of blood vessels that helps to build the surrounding tooth. Infection of the pulp can be caused by trauma to the tooth, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental procedures. Symptoms of the infection can be identified as visible injury or swelling of the tooth, sensitivity to temperature or pain in the tooth and gums.
Root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulp, once the damaged, diseased or dead pulp is removed, the remaining space is
cleaned, shaped and filled. This procedure seals off the root canal. Years ago, teeth with diseased or injured pulps were removed. Today, root canal treatment saves many teeth that would otherwise be lost.

At Caneland Dental we use the most modern equipment (motorised mechanical instrumentation, digital x-rays, apex locator and thermal filling system) making the procedure as easy as possible for our patients.
